Hair Care Routine

Summer time usually means long hours outside in the sun by the beach or the pool. Our hair need extra love during that time to avoid dryness and breakage. I get lots of compliments about my hair, so I thought it was a good time to share with you my tips, hair care routine and the products I like that have helped me keep strong healthy hair.

When it comes to hair I’ve done it all, from long to short, fringe/no fringe, highlights, balayage and coloration (I was even platinum blonde at one point!). I’m fortunate enough to have had good hair most of my life, BUT those years of balayage and coloration did damage to them big time. I struggled for years to get my thick healthy hair back.

What I learned is the less you do the better it is for your hair and you don’t have to buy expensive products to see results!

Tips to have the beautiful hair you dream of:

  • Choose clean products with NO SULFATES, NO PARABEN, NO ALUMINIUM, NO DYES. You don’t want harsh products on your scalp, which can lead to inflammation.

  • Don’t wash your hair everyday. Shower water contains lots of minerals, chlorine and calcium that are not great for your hair. I do twice a week and use dry shampoo in between.

  • Eat plenty of proteins to stimulate hair growth and have strong hair.

  • Brush your hair everyday to stimulate your scalp and improve blood flow, which promotes hair growth. I personally prefer and use a wooden brush with bamboo pins. It’s gentle on the scalp and reduces static.

  • Use a moisturizing hair mask at least once a week.

  • Detangle your hair in the shower with some conditioner before you wash it.

  • Dry your hair by dabbing a towel on your hair and squeezing the water out of the tips of your hair. Don’t rub the towel on your hair, friction damages your hair.

  • Let you hair dry naturally instead of using a blowdryer.

  • Apply a moisturizing protective oil before going to the beach or pool. The UV, salt, chlorine and other chemicals damage your hair.

  • Use a dry oil on the tips of your hair when you feel they are getting dry.

When it comes to my hair care routine it’s very simple. I wash my hair twice a week and I use the nourishing shampoo and conditioner by Hask. I also use their repairing deep conditioner as a mask once a week. I apply it after using shampoo and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing. When my hair is dry I switch to this deep conditioner instead of my normal one and apply it as a mask. Then I detangle my hair in the shower with some of my conditioner still on. I rinse my hair, dry them with a towel, by dabbing the towel on my hair and squeeze the water out of the tips. Then I detangle them one more time and let them dry naturally. That’s it!

In terms of hair color, I’ve been doing blonde highlights for a few years now. I like that it’s low maintenance, doesn’t damage my hair and looks natural. In the past when I had more blonde coverage by doing balayage and coloration, I used the purple shampoo and conditioner by dpHUE to maintain the cool, icy tones and avoid brassy hair. I also did use a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove all the impurities.

You will find my selection of hair care products below. Happy healthy hair everyone!
