Fall Getaway in Michigan
πHARBOR COUNTRY
New Buffalo || Three Oaks || Harbert || Sawyer
Each year at the beginning of October we head to Michigan to pick apples and pumpkins. Itβs a nice break from the city especially to enjoy the autumn foliage and itβs only one and a half hour from Chicago. My husband and I first discovered the Harbor Country region seven years ago. We got seduced by the charming towns, antique stores, U-Pick fruit farms, their distillery and breweries. It became our fall tradition.
Here is a list of places we like to go. Let me know where you go for apple picking in the comments section below! Happy harvest season everyone!
NEW BUFFALO:
This is the first town when you arrive in Harbor Country. Itβs a cute lakeside town with a beach, harbor, a canopy walkway, breweries, restaurants and a train station! Yes you hear it right, you can go there by train. Itβs only 1 hour away from Chicago Union Station.

THREE OAKS:
This town is all about antique stores mostly located on the main street (Elm St.) and their famous distillery: Journeyman. We love the vibes, food and drinks. We usually stop there for a late lunch. I recommend ordering their specialty flight to taste their housemate spirits. We really like their O.C.G Apple Cider Liqueur. You can buy their alcohol at the shop inside the restaurant.
