Feb 27 French Style: The Power of Cardigans

Cardigans are a wardrobe essential. Do not underestimate the power of a cardigan! They are versatile pieces that can be styled different ways to create different looks. They are also your best friends during mid-season weather. You know when the temperatures are not cold anymore but not warm enough to wear that dress you love without a jacket. Well this is when a cardigan comes in handy! Bottom line is everyone should have different styles of cardigans in their wardrobe.

Now let’s talk of the type of cardigans to go for to keep your style in check. Each cardigan has a specific vibe with a different length and cut. It’s important to know what to wear with depending on the length of the cardigan in order to avoid a fashion faux-pas! You will find the cardigans I have in my closet as well as my tips on how to style them below.

Cardigan Styling Tips:

You want to opt for neutral color cardigans as it’s easier to pair them with everything.
Build your wardrobe with different styles and lengths of cardigans. It’s a great way to create different looks without having to buy new clothes. You will have fun creating new looks by just changing the cardigan you’re wearing depending on the mood you’re in. Your wallet will be happy too!
The fabric is important as it’s what’s going to make your cardigan look good or bad and that has nothing to do with the price. You can buy a cheap cardigan that looks expensive just by knowing to pay attention to the fabric. Usually opting for a textured knit cardigan does the trick, like my black H&M cropped cardigan in the picture above. It gives the cardigan a luxurious feel without breaking the bank! Cardigans made of cotton, wool or viscose are my go to.
My last tip is to stick with classic cut cardigans for a timeless look, like the round neck and V-neck cardigans.

3 - The V-Neck Oversized Cardigan goes best with:

a skinny jean
a long satin midi dress

4- The Round Neck Sweater Cardigan

This is the most versatile cardigan, that goes well with pretty much everything:

a long or short slim straight jean
a short dress or long dress
a short wide leg pant

5- The Short V-Neck Knit Cardigan

I feel like if there is one style of cardigan you can have fun with, this is this one! Opt for a fun print or nice color. I have a black and white print knit cardigan from Urban Outfitters that I love and a light pink one from H&M that I wear with my spring/summer outfits. This type of cardigan goes well with:
